1988 On Dec. 15 1988, the co-founders -- Mr. Wu Boqing, Mr. Tao Shoujun, Mr. Yuan Jie Ms. Liu Weizhen uted “Article of Shanghai Economic & Trade Law Firm” “Application for Establishment”.
On Dec. 24 1988, the Bureau of Justice of Shanghai Municipality issued “Reply Regarding the Permission for Resigning from Current Positions Establishing Shanghai Economic & Trade Law Firm of cooperative nature” [(88) Hu Si Fa Lv Guan Zi No. 402], by which it approved the establishment of Shanghai Economic & Trade Law Firm. The law firm was located in 20 Ningbo Road, Shanghai. The law firm was the fiftieth established law firm in Shanghai, had ten lawyers, of whom four were full-time lawyers (Wu Boqing, Tao Shoujun, Yuan Jie Liu Weizhen), five part-time lawyers (He Jianfen, Sun Yuxin, Pan Yixin, Xin Lixu, Fu Qimin), one Guest Lawyer (Gong Zhiyi).
In Dec. 1988, Wu Bo Qing was rated as “Top 10 Legal Advisors in Shanghai”. Liu Wei Zhen and Tao Shou Jun was recognized in this contest.
1989 On Jan. 24 1989, the opening ceremony of Shanghai Economic & Trade Law Firm, with more than fifty guests attended, was held in “Ke Yuan Restaurant” situated in Shanghai Natural Museum on East Yanan Road, Shanghai.
1990 In Dec. 1990, Shanghai Economic & Trade Law Firm was rated as “National Leading Law Firm” by Ministry of Justice of China.
1992 In 1992, Shanghai Channel Law Firm was established, after which Shanghai Economic & Trade Law Firm Shanghai Channel Law Firm, subject to unified management, practiced together. Approximately one year thereafter, Shanghai Channel Law Firm started practicing independently.
1993 In 1993, Shanghai Economic & Trade Law Firm became the first law firm purchased its own office premises moved to 2 Lane 531, East Beijing Road.
In Dec. 1993, the 5th anniversary of Shanghai Economic & Trade Law Firm, Wang Wen Zheng，then Vice President of All China Lawyers Association and then President of Shanghai Bar Association, wrote a congratulatory letter: “Shanghai Economic & Trade Law Firm has been established for five years. In the past five years, she has grown to be a great law firm with strength and reputation in Shanghai. She has good experience and worth to learn”.
1994 In Nov. 1994, Ren Ji Sheng, then President of All China Lawyers Association, recommended Shanghai Economic & Trade Law Firm to International Bar Association, he called that “Shanghai Economic & Trade Law Firm, one of the leading law firms in China."
1995 In 1995, as per the requirement of Ministry of Justice as to appellations of law firms, Shanghai Economic & Trade Law Firm was renamed “Shanghai Jin Mao Law Firm”.
1996 In 1996, several lawyers of Shanghai Jin Mao Law Firm started working in an office situated on the 21/F.
2001 In 2001, Wu Bo Qing’s < Studies on the practice of Lawyers> was published by SDX Joint Publishing Press. This book got the First Prize of Shanghai lawyer's monograph.
2002 On Mar. 25 2002, according to the approval decision of Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Justice [HU SI FA LV GUAN (2002) NO.37], Jin Mao reformed to Partner-ship law firm.
2003 On Jan. 22 2003, according to the approval decision of Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Justice [HU SI FA LV GUAN (2003) NO.18], Shen Mao was incorporated into Jin Mao.
In Aug. 2003, Mr. Duan Zheng Kun, then Vice Minister of Ministry of Justice of the People’s Republic of China, wrote a congratulatory letter to Jin Mao. He praised Jin Mao and made the vision for the future.
In Aug. 2003, Ding Wei Xiao, Partner of Jinmao, was selected as the representative of the 9th All-China Women's Congress.
In 2003, Wu Bo Qing, Partner of Jinmao, was engaged as the Director of Shanghai Evaluation Committee of Senior Professional Lawyers and Notaries by Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Personnel.
2004 In 2004, Jin Mao is ranked The First in comprehensive strength in Shanghai law firms in 2003 by Shanghai Bar Association.
In Apr. 2004, He Jian Fen, Partner of Jin Mao, was rated as “Outstanding Female Lawyer” by Shanghai Bar Association.
2005 In 2005, Jin Mao was rated as “National Leading Law Firm” by All China Lawyers Association.
In Oct. 2005, was published by Law Press-CHINA, was selected into this book.
2006 In Aug. 2006, Jin Mao was approved to set up branch in Hong Kong. Jin Mao was the fifth law firm in mainland with the Hong Kong office.
2008 On Feb. 2 2008, Jin Mao changed the registered address: 18/F Universal Mansion, 168 Yuyuan Road, Shanghai 200042, China.
On May 13 2008, Jin Mao issued “Donation Proposal – WE ARE FAMILY” on the “Oriental Lawyers”, the website of Shanghai Bar Association. 60 employees of Jinmao donated.
On Jun. 1 2008, according to the “Law of People’s Republic of China on Lawyers”, Jin Mao’s competent authority changed to Huangpu District Municipal Bureau of Justice.
In Sep. 2008, Hong Kong Office moved to new office: Room 604, 6F, Tower 1, Lippo Centre, 89 Queensway, Hong Kong.
2010 In Jan. 2010, Jin Mao was commended as the “2010 Expo Legal Supplier” by Shanghai Municipal Bureau of World Expo Exhibition and Convention. “ The First case of EXPO” was agented by Jin Mao, which got the good appraisal form the exhibitor.
In Oct. 2010, Jin Mao was rated as “Dispute Resolution Law Firm of the Year”, “Shanghai Law Firm of the Year”, “Rising Law Firm of the Year” by ALB Asian Legal Business.
In Dec. 2010, Jin Mao was rated as “Shanghai Leading Legal Service Unit for International Trade” by Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, and got the “Special Funds for International Trade”.
2011 In Feb. 2011, Han Chun Yan was rated as “Outstanding Female Lawyer” by Shanghai Bar Association.
In May 2011, Jin Mao is rated as “2009-2010 Model Unit” by Shanghai Municipal Government.
In Apr. 2011, "Huangpu Financial Legal Advisory Group" was set up by Huangpu District Municipal Bureau of Justice. A lot of Jin Mao lawyers were selected into this group and will service the financial enterprises in Huangpu District.
On Nov. 30 2011, Jin Mao become the “Teaching Practice Base” of Academy of International Law , East China University of Political Science and Law, and set up “Jin Mao Scholarship”.
On Dec. 18 2011, Jin Mao moved to new office: 19/F, Sail Tower, 266 Han Kou Road, Shanghai 20001, China.
2012 In Jun. 2012, Jin Mao is rated as “Highly Recommended as a Ranked Firm in Commercial 2012” by Chambers & partners, a famous international legal rating agency.
On Nov. 1 2012, Jinmao as one of the organizers, hosted the 2nd “Bund Financial Law Forum”. The theme of this forum is “New Huangpu, New Finance”. Kevin King, Wan Bo, Rogers Wu, Partners of Jin Mao, delivered keynote addresses at this forum. Over 200 guests and lawyer representatives attended this forum.
On Dec. 8 2012, Chen Ze Zheng, the famous lawyer of Jin Mao, was rated as “Shanghai Lawyers Industry Contribution Award” by Shanghai Bar Association.
2013 In Jan. 2013, Jin Mao was rated as “2012 Leading Law Firm” by Shanghai Municipal Bureau.

2019 On Mar. 31 2019, at the first meeting of 11th Shanghai Lawyers' Congress, Jin Mao was rated as “2015-2018 Shanghai Top 10 Outstanding Law Firms” by Shanghai Bar Association.
In Apr. 2019, Jin Mao was rated as “2017-2018 Model Unit” by Shanghai Municipal Government.
On Jun. 18 2019, Jin Mao established cooperative relationships with Wangheng, a law firm in Beijing China offering a comprehensive range of professional legal services.
On Nov. 12 2019, Jin Mao become the “Teaching Practice Base” of Shanghai University of Political Science and Law, and set up “Jin Mao Scholarship”.
On Oct. 28 2019, Jin Mao moved to new office: 40/F, Bund Center, 222 East Yan An Road, Shanghai 200002, China. On Dec. 27th, Jin Mao held the unveiling ceremony of the new office.
